You want me to eat what? Absurd!

Chelsea, our pet Bichon Frise, has an opinion about everything, especially food. She has declared war on conventional dog food. She won’t eat it unless she is at starvation’s door. I admit that this is a small exaggeration. She is rarely really hungry. She eats three times a day, because we do. She is insulted if we don’t offer her food at the same time we eat.

We listened to Chelsea’s consistent appeal for relief and purchased several cans of gluten-free dog food, just in case she may be allergic to wheat. She liked the gluten-free version at first, but she tolerated it only a short time and then refused it altogether.

I knew what to do. Chelsea likes people food, but we do not feed her table scraps. When we cook hamburgers or steaks (Steve cooks them on the gas grill outside), we prepare one for Chelsea. When I bake a chicken, I make her dog food out of the breast meat. It was time to prepare homemade dog food for Chelsea everyday.

What? Did you say Meatball and Pumpkin Feast? Grrr! Yummy!

Today I made her personal dog food feast from leftover meatballs. I added some canned pumpkin and a few drops of water to make my food processor produce the right consistency. This is her first time for meatball dog food. I hope she likes it. I checked the Internet and found that pumpkin is a healthy ingredient for her food.

The Process: I make her gluten-free homemade dog food from baked or boiled chicken. I add parsley or other greens for nutrition and rice for filler. I add chicken broth to add flavor and improve consistency. I chop it finely in my mini Cuisinart food processor. She LOVES her chicken dog food. I think she will like meatball/pumpkin dog food, too.

Since I had to open a can of pumpkin for Chelsea, I used the rest of the can to make a pumpkin dessert for us. We will enjoy the sweet treat today from Chelsea’s leftover pumpkin.

Why is it that our pets rule our households? I guess we love them like they were family, and they are. I’d love to hear your pet stories.
