Cold Morning

My habit is to get up in the morning early, brew a pot of coffee, and drink my first cup outside sitting on a bench surrounded by the green landscape of our grounds. I am seldom totally alone; others are taking their morning walks or coming and going for one reason or another.

When I woke this morning our apartment seemed cold. I checked the weather application on my iPhone and found that the temperature outside had gone down considerably. It was 55 degrees. I turned on the heat for the first time this season surprised that a cold day would come up so suddenly. I brewed my coffee, donned my jacket, grabbed a cup of Java, and scurried down the stairs and out the door. I was determined to engage in my morning ritual despite the cold I expected to encounter. I grew up in Ohio and Michigan and 55 degrees there was not considered by residents to be cold.

I confess that I had to open my jacket soon after sitting on the bench. It was really nice outside. Cool. Sunny. Still green. I know the days are quickly coming when mornings will be colder than I like. I will gratefully enjoy my first cup of coffee with my husband at breakfast inside, warm, and cozy.

    Carol Ann-
Interesting how relative the weather is…I woke up today to a temp of about 58 and thought it was too hot. Muggy and all over me.
I am glad you took your cuppa joe in the wakening day.

    • I was born to live in a warm climate. My many years in the north were difficult for me. Texas is a great climate. Florida was good for me, too. My husband hates the cold more than I do. He can thrive when it’s so hot that I’m sweltering. So, yes, relative is a good word, Jane. I just left your post. I love the way you described your feeling as wearing a too warm sweater. Ha! Great. Blessings to you…

    Love the pic!

Isn’t it funny how temperature “feels?” In fall, 58 degrees seems cold. In spring (after below zero temps), 58 degrees feels downright balmy!

    • You’re right about that. After being too warm for so long, I felt really cold the first cold morning. Spring, coming after a cold winter, feels warm and inviting with the first spring breeze. Thank you for stopping by. Blessings to you…

It’s so invigorating, this change in seasons. When I came home on Sunday afternoon, I immediately noticed a tree that had donned it’s light orange coat – it surprised me since I could swear it was still green on Friday. Your morning ritual sounds wonderful. The mornings are always my favorite time. Sounds like you and your hubby appreciate nature and the seasons, and the sights, smells, sounds and beauty it all brings! The best entertainment you could ever ask for, and it’s all free. Brought to you by God’s Country. 🙂

    • Yes, Bonnie. We both enjoy the simple things in life. I’ve always been a morning person and I love daybreak. I’m not outside at daybreak, but I get up, shower, brew coffee, and head outside. My husband is not far behind. God’s country. That’s a good way to put it. Thank you for visiting. I enjoyed your post today as always.

I felt as if I was there with you, in the moment, the way you have described it!! Amazing how the seasons change so quickly…it sounded very cosy to me and have to say that 55 is quite cold for me already!! As you know, Spring has arrived but for the last week or more, not much of it glory has been showing ….it’s been raining for the last week or more, my morning walks have been put on hold and just as well, as you know I have been so busy here but after Wednesday things will brighten up and I’ll have more time to spend with all of you…whom I miss so much!! I follow the same ritual as you, every morning I come downstairs, make a coffee and go outside and watch everyone doing there own thing. As I live on the water, so many do their rowing or even swimming!! Nothing like nature to bring us back to realize what life is all about and just how lucky and fortunate we are to be healthy and LOVED!!! Blessings to you and yours my dear girlfriend!! And who knows….maybe one day we could have a coffee together!! Mwah xx

    • Blessings to you, Amanda. You are having spring while we are having fall. All that rain will bring green leaves and flowers. I will think of you when I enjoy my morning coffee in a few hours. How nice to live on the water! I agree with you about nature. Watching birds and squirrels and trees and feeling the wind’s caress all reassure us of God’s unfailing love. Morning is the best time of day. Like rainbows, sunshine, and rain, morning is a promise of new mercy and grace. Being healthy and loved… Yes, we are blessed indeed. And who knows when we might have coffee together? Life is full of surprises. Thank you for visiting.

My life evolves around the changing seasons, married to a farmer and the land,I’ve notice nature more and more and enjoy the “little” things in life…the changing sounds of the autumn arrival of birds, the changing colours of my garden and yes, the changing temps. We’re early risers also, although I admit hubby has surprised me each morning this week with a cup of coffee…I’m not complaining! Yvette x

    • Welcome, Yvette. Thank you for visiting. I love morning, too, and like to greet it outside, with coffee, where I can hear the birds chirping and the rustling of leaves in the breezes. Your blog is beautiful with all the autumn colors and the squash and pumpkin and all that makes for good cooking and good eating. The polenta cake looks very interesting. Blessings to you…

  8. Texas, in the USA, gets very warm in the summer, often hotter than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Possibly the Celsius system is used in India. I think most of the world uses it. I need to learn Celsius and the metric measurement system, too. the weather also gets cold here in winter, but not as cold as in northern USA. Up there snow falls in the winter and blistering cold winds blow. Does the weather get really cold where you are? Today in Texas the weather is perfect. Blue skies, sunshine, cool breeze. Thank you for visiting, Trisha, and for your comment. I hope your cool weather arrives soon.

I do love days like that. When the air is crisp, but then the sun comes up and burns away the mist and it’s such a brilliant, shining day.
