I Thank You – LORD

For young green leaves on trees
Outside my window – I thank You –
For coffee – and a donut –
I praise your loving kindness – LORD –

For my hubby – thank You –
I see how much You love him –
I see that he loves You –
I thank you – LORD – for this –

You encourage us –
You turn trials into blessings –
As only You can do –
I thank You – LORD

If these blessings were all
We had to be thankful for –
Life would be meaningless –
If we only lived and died –
The soul that sins – it dies
Without hope unless You
Forgive – Jesus – You died
To break the strength of sin and law –

You won the victory –
You – alone – paid the price –
Conquered death and grave –
You seized the power to save –
Offering life to everyone –
Who – believing – receives the gift –
Jesus – I thank You –
LORD – every day that I live

2 Corinthians 9:15 – The Bible – (KJV) – Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

Ephesians 2:4-10 – The Bible (KJV) – But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 – The Bible – (KVJ) – In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

  1. To break the strength of sin and law –

Many Christians think the OT Law was merely the 10 Commandments and have no idea of the hundreds of restrictions placed on the Jewish people and that degrees of holiness were based on how much you followed the rules. Jesus was to liberate from this. Paul said observing the Law was no longer necessary which created a great divide between him and Peter and was probably the main reason the Jesus Movement within Judaism evaporated by Second Century. Martin Luther wrote some very intense and thorough essays on Paul’s rejection of the Law.

    • It is true that the ceremonial laws and ordinances were nailed to the cross. Jesus paid for our sins and set us free from the penalty of the law. Jesus fulfilled the law in that he paid the penalty for every transgression and sin; he paid for the iniquity of us all. Therefore, the law has been satisfied for all who trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross.

Martin Luther was a great preacher and a brave man. Thank you for your insightful comment. Blessings to you, Carl…

I love the hope that this poem exudes. There is so much more to live for than what is in this life.

    • Yes, you have said it right. We cannot properly evaluate our lives without looking past the date of death to infinite eternity, where measures of time will be no more. Forever is a very long time. (There I mention time again. Time is what we have here. Thinking of time as obsolete is beyond our comprehension.). Surely everlasting life will show that our moment on earth, though significant in God’s plan, is not all there is. Blessings to you, Janna…
