Tormented Soul Trodden Down Look Up

Tormented soul trodden down
Identity marred by wounds inflicted
Inflicted by one that should have loved you
Hope seems invisible – rage devouring
Shadow of life lingering
Crippled spirit
Hanging on
Sworn to
Pay back
But near
Death

Look up
There is One who knows
One who cares – the almighty One
Who knows each sorrow each wound you bear
Vengeance is mine – He says – Let Me
Let Me bring justice to you – Let Me
Arise in power with fairness
For you – For I only know it all
Yes – I know more than you
Payback is Mine I declare
Stand back
Turn around
Trust Me
I rule

Be still and know that I am God
I offer forgiveness to you
I suffered wounds for you
You belong to Me –
Only believe and
I belong to you

Do not rejoice in your enemy’s destruction
Or shout with glee when he’s reduced to rubble
Rejoice when your enemy is blessed
Feed your enemy when he’s hungry

Then will Your Father lift you up and bless you
Then will your light shine in darkness
Your triumph will be famous
Mercy and grace will multiply
In you

Romans 12:19 – The Bible – Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Proverbs 25:21-22 – The Bible – If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

Matthew 5:43-48 – the Bible – Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Isaiah 63:4-6 – The Bible – For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

John 3:16 – The Bible – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

  2. Precious words, Carol Ann. They’re a fitting accompaniment to my devotions as we head into Lent. Thank you.

    • I remember a little about Lent from my early childhood when my grandmother, who had me on weekends for a season, sent me to a Lutheran church across the street from her. I was invited by a friend to a Baptist church as a teen. What a sweet time to spend preparing our hearts to appreciate the Lord’s time of crisis on the cross bearing our sins. If it were not for my blogging experience, I’d have not heard about this period of time again and how Christians spend it expressing through thought and deed their devotion to the Lord. Blessings to you as you observe Lent…

    • I received your email earlier, and already my mind has tucked it away in some corner. I must stop this AGING thing. It’s ridiculous. I must find that email and get busy checking out my stories. Now that I’ve been away from them, maybe I’ll read them and think I was crazy to write them. We’ll see. If I still think they are worthy, I may enter the contest. Thank you for thinking of me. Blessings to you, Patti…

It’s not always easy to refrain from gloating at the downfall of an enemy.
    You’re very wise, Carol.

    • I know what you mean. It is so like us to want to celebrate when we should weep and weep when we should celebrate. Our humanity is so very real. Yet, God tells us just the opposite, and He is able to justly decide how to deal with wrongdoers. Blessings to you, Cindy, and thank you for stopping by and for your candid comment. I may always expect truth from your lips.

    • Sweet Trisha. We can trust God to be just. Justice and truth God will always uphold. No one gets away with wrongdoing. There is a principle in life that God set in motion: We reap what we sow, later than we sow, and more than we sow. Evildoers reap a whirlwind crop they never expected. We can sow seed for good or for evil. All of us have dual crops, I’m sure, but this is a principle that prevails on earth. Those whose sins are forgiven may reap sorrow on this earth, but in eternity all sorrows will be wiped away for the children of God, because Jesus bore our grief and carried our sorrow to the cross. Blessings to you, Trisha…

  7. Very good message, Carol. Asaph wrote in Psalm 73 about how it seemed that his enemies succeeded and the wicked prospered but then he said:, ” When I tried to understand all this it was oppressive to me till I entered the sactuary of God; then I understood their final destiny”. The truth is that God never forgets a wrong done to you but it is up to him to deal with it as he sees fit. I try to remember that he did not turn me into dust when I hurt others but gave me grace to repent. Those who cannot let go of their anger towards someone’s wrongdoing to them must keep in mind that to do so takes from glorifying God who has done so much for us!

    • Thank you for stopping by and for your insightful comment, Marianne. Yes, it glorifies God when we trust Him to deal justly with wrongdoers. We receive mercy ourselves, as you pointed out, and we should be glad when others receive forgiveness. Thank you again for visiting and commenting. Blessings to you…
