Hush the Whistling Wind

Why LORD why

Am I prone to wander
Why do I endlessly stray
Why does the whistling wind
Cause me to lose my way

Why when you’ve
Cuddled me near your heart
Shattered the shackles that held me
Should not the charms of such passion
Fasten me to my God

Why would you

Call me until I hear you when
You knew I’d stray away
You are God and I but dust
You could forget me but you won’t

Although I
Stumble weaken falter
You forever rescue me
You hush the whistling wind
And set me straight again

Psalm 56:8-13 – Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word. In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

You would think that, once we felt that loving embrace, we would never stray. And yet we do.

    Beautiful post, Carol Ann

    • Yes, we do stray from our place of confidence in God. I always think I’ll be perfectly fixed and immovable forever. Some stupid thought will cross my mind, and I’ll become bewildered and befuddled again. But our Heavenly Father, Yahweh, the Holy spirit, God, Jesus, Jehovah Nissi, Elohim, et al., is always faithful and true. 🙂 Blessings to you, Nancy…

Beautiful poem! The “whistling wind” is a perfect description of the things that distract us from God because at the end of the day all we have is a fistful of emptiness if we’re not holding God’s hand! 🙂

This is a question I too ask myself, why do we stray even after surrendering ourselves to God, is that because the surrender is not complete? we hold back some thing?

    • I’ll do my best to answer your question. We stray for a host of reasons. Our human nature is to go away from God toward personal ownership of ourselves and our possessions. We are easily moved from our place of full surrender. Surrender is an ongoing challenge for us. Also, we are exposed to the trials of life that hurt us and confuse us. We are tempted by the Evil One to doubt the goodness of God. We effortlessly move from our position of trust to one of doubt and fear. If our souls were not kept forever by God, we would have no hope of Heaven. But thanks to God, as believers in Jesus, the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world, we are secure, and will never be forsaken by God. He will come after us when we stray and call us back to our LORD.

These are truth and truely soothing words. I will keep it in mind during those patches of confusion. which have simmered down but who has seen tomorrow.

      • Blessings to you, Trisha. Such wise words: who has seen tomorrow. There is only One who knows tomorrow, the One who knows all things. He has His hand on every tomorrow, and He brings good from them all, although we may not always understand. We may take our journey through this life standing in the safety of His shadow, or not. I choose to linger near the throne of God. Thank you for your sweet words, Trisha…

  6. A poem of the heart, beautifully expressed. It’s human nature to ask why we’re prone to wander, blaming other things for making us stray, when it is our own weakness that’s to blame. I love your reminder that God is always there, always willing to rescue us.

    • Thank you for stopping by here and for your comment. What would we do without the grace of God? Life would be worthless. With Jesus, we may enjoy life knowing that He cares for us and won’t remove His blessing from us. God’s blessing may come in the form of discipline, if necessary, but He will not forsake us. Blessings to you, Carol…

Hi Carol – I love the image you have used for this wonderful poem and also your words throughout.

I especially like your reference to our prone to wandering due to the whistling winds around us. I often used to feel like an autumn leaf blowing on a whistling wind in life…but now I feel more grounded 😀

    Have a great day!

    • Thank you for your comment, Chloe. The longer we know Him, the less the howling winds, the cares of this life, are able to distract us. This is true and wonderful. I haven’t reached the place where I never lose perspective, but God is always faithful to come to my rescue with reassurance and boundless love. Thank you for stopping by. Blessings to you…
