I’ve been reading and studying a book written by a missionary in Guatemala named Becky Dvorak. She and her husband believed God called them from their home in the United States to a city in Guatemala in Central America. They depended on the Lord as their Provider, and they were not disappointed.
They ministered to street children in Guatemala. The photo above shows some very happy children. This was not what they found on the streets of Guatemala. They found abandoned orphans, dirty, wounded, diseased, and downhearted. I cannot imagine getting close to such a situation, but this couple continually brought these children food and told them about Jesus. They spent many years in Guatemala caring for orphaned children, not only on the street but in a homelike situation.
The Bible teaches that God will give believers what they ask for, in faith, praying in the name of Jesus. Here is another real life example of this principle:
This same missionary couple believed that God wanted them to construct a building in Guatemala to house and care for orphans, as well as infants and children infected with the HIV virus. The mortgage payment for this edifice cost $10,000 dollars each month, money they didn’t have. Trusting God by faith, this couple received this mortgage money and were able to make the payment each month until the the debt was paid. Not only did God provide the funds, he healed the children they cared for in the building.
We need faith to believe God for His promises. If we want faith, God will grant it. Faith is a gift that God gives to us. If you are a believer in Jesus, God gave you faith to believe the gospel. God is good. He will grant faith to us the same way he gave it to Becky Dvorak and her husband.
Matthew 18:10-14 – The Bible (KJV) – Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.
Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
Ephesians 2:8 – The Bible (KJV) – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God…
