I Look Back – You Were There

I look back – You were there –
I look forward – I expect You –
LORD, my God – You will show
Yourself mighty – You will be
Present with me – You will never
Leave me alone

I won’t be hungry or thirsty –
I won’t be begging for bread –
Jehovah Jireh – my Provider –
You will set a table for me –
I’ll have enough food to invite
Others to eat

Thank You for Your goodness –
LORD – Thank You for Your might –
If trouble comes – You will stay
With me to comfort me – You
Will be my God and I will
Praise You always

Psalm 23 – The Bible (KJV) – The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

    • Thank you, JoDee. I appreciate your encouraging words. His faithfulness is what gets me through a day. My life is good, but without Jesus, nothing would seem worthwhile, but rather, cumbersome, boring, not enough. With Jesus, life is everything it needs to be to inspire gratitude and hope for today, tomorrow, and a splendid eternity. Blessings to you, JoDee…

This is excellent! I see Footprints so often, and this was a great departure with the same concept in mind. Loved it.

    • I like the poem Footprints. I identify with being carried through trials when my own strength failed. Our lives may be laced with landmines that bring us much pain and injury, but we are not left alone to face the unknown. Jesus is not only our commanding officer in this life, He is our fellow, and our medic, and our counselor, and the One whose love and presence never fails.

Thank you for your comment, Tracy. I appreciate it very much. Blessings to you…

The 23rd Psalm is likely the first scripture many of us memorized in Sunday school, and it is very popular at funerals…it’s a Psalm for a lifetime. I liked your “take” on it, Carol.

    • Thank you for taking time to read and for your sweet comment. I love the 23rd Psalm. It was the verse I learned as a young child. It sticks with me always like oatmeal on a winter morning. When I feel threatened, I say those words to myself. Blessings to you, Patti…

This was my grandmother’s favorite Psalm. We had it read at her funeral. Thank you for another beautiful reminder of our salvation, Carol Ann. Blessings to you.

    • Thank you for an encouraging comment, Bonnie. I love the 23rd Psalm, too. It’s one that I learned by heart. When trouble comes on me suddenly, I quote it to myself because I know it. It calms me right away. Thank you for stopping by. Blessings to you…
