Trust in the LORD and Do Good

Psalm 37:1-7 – The Bible (KJV) – Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him…

And that’s what it is all about, anyway, isn’t it? Trust in the Lord, Delight thyself in the Lord, Commit thy way unto Him–and He shall bring forth thy righteousness–Rest in Him. That would sum up a perfect day. Thanks, Carol.

this version is from The Message (my daughter has been reading it…I am enjoying the way the words bring new visions of God to my heart…)

1-2 Don’t bother your head with braggarts or wish you could succeed like the wicked.
In no time they’ll shrivel like grass clippings
and wilt like cut flowers in the sun.

3-4 Get insurance with God and do a good deed,
settle down and stick to your last.
    Keep company with God,
    get in on the best.

    5-6 Open up before God, keep nothing back;
he’ll do whatever needs to be done:
He’ll validate your life in the clear light of day
and stamp you with approval at high noon.

    7 Quiet down before God,
    be prayerful before him.
Don’t bother with those who climb the ladder,
who elbow their way to the top.

    blessings

    • I’ve read The Message from time to time. It’s a paraphrase of the Bible. Very nice rendition of this passage.

I should use a more modern translation than the King James Version. I learned the Bible in KJV. It’s etched in my memory forever. This is how I find the verses I’m looking for. I know the phrases in KJV. Often I’ll find the verse I want in KJV and switch to NIV. I usually think that nothing is as perfect as KJV, but I’m sure this is because I’m used to it. Others may have difficulty understanding the old English. Maybe I’ll start using a more modern version in my posts.

Thanks for your visit and comment. Others reading may also enjoy seeing the paraphrase of these verses in The Message. Blessings to you, Jane…

    • Thank you for visiting and for your comment. I, too, like to read multiple versions. At Biblegateway.com I can switch a passage into a number of versions, including The Message. I love KJV because the words and phrases reside firmly in my memory. I like NIV and NET, also. I use KJV as a reference point and read other versions, especially if I come to a place in KJV that I don’t understand. Blessings to you, Janna…

I love that this verse doesn’t allow us to be inactive in our trust.

It says to “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. ”

We are to remain active while we trust and wait on the Lord. I think it makes the time go faster if we have something else to keep our mind and hands busy.
    Blessing to you Carol!

  9. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful scripture. I especially take comfort from these words: ” Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” That is so encouraging!

i too dont care about these things, but sometimes i do hope that they too had left us alone.

we may like to part our ways from them and live our simple, god loving life but do they?

    • Yes, it would be nice to be left alone to worship God, but apparently God has a purpose in our trials. Also, He wants us to know that those trusting in God will live forever, while the wicked will be cut down like grass. We are blessed; they are not.

Thank you for your visit to this post and your comment. May God bless you and keep you in perfect peace…
