Love Grows Love

Two lives become one – the journey begins
Love makes it happen – this union –
This marriage – this promise
To blend – to mend any
Schism – to bend –
Not break –
Give –
Not take –
Receive

From one another what each one may give
Without judging – without accusing –
Without choosing
To berate – loving
Supremely the unseemly
At times – Knowing
Love
Never
Fails

What God joins together let no one put asunder –
If only the world were like God
There wouldn’t be
Imperfect love –
Harmless as doves
Be trusting that
Love
Grows
Love

Genesis 1:27-28 – The Bible (KJV) – So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it…

Genesis 2:23-24 – The Bible (KJV) – And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Proverbs 5:18-19 – The Bible (KJV) – Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

Proverbs 31:10-12 – The Bible (KJV) – Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

What a beautiful poem, Carol. And very timely, with the wedding season upon us. “If only the world were like God…” is a powerful statement. If only.

    • Thank you for your visit and your kind comment, Patti.

Yes, if we were all like God, there would be world peace, wonderful marriages, but because we have sinned and are not like God, we have experienced His grace, and have known His love expressed in the cross of Calvary for us. Bittersweet blessings.

Have a great weekend, Patti. Blessings to you, my friend…

Very nice…too many people forget that marriage is a 3-way contract, with God in the middle, joining the two hands together.

  4. Approaching 62 I have accepted that this loving, wholesome, Christian marriage thing was not in the cards for me. For those that have it and sincerely try to develop it, cherish it, for it seems a rare gift.

    • In our culture it may be rare. I hope not. For most people it’s a struggle to build a lasting marriage, but it’s the most rewarding relationship in life and worth every effort to nurture and keep. My first marriage failed. My second husband and I had a wonderful marriage, but he died before the end of our seventh year. My present husband and I have been married happily for fourteen years. Who knows what the future may hold for you, Carl. God is good. Blessings to you…

32 years in August. It’s not always easy, but I think loving ourselves and being responsible for our own happiness, instead of expecting someone else to make us happy, is key. A lovely poem, Carol Ann.

    • My anniversary is in August, too. It will be only 15 years for us. I remarried after my former husband died.

I agree with you on the happiness issue. Many young people have the notion that their mates will be the source of all their happiness and meet all their needs. This is an unrealistic expectation that fosters disappointment. God has a place in satisfying our needs and desires, and He is able. Burdening our relationships with unreasonable, unspoken, demands diminishes the likelihood of success.

Thank you for stopping by and for your insightful comment, Laura. Blessings to you this weekend and always…

My pastor, on Easter Sunday said, “Jesus has already said his vows for you, and is waiting at the altar, for you. will you join Him there?”
    goosebumps…
now…as for earthly marriage…we can only ever succeed at that when we can, daily, divorce our own self.

    • What a sweet thought. The church is the bride of Christ, so your pastor’s statement is supported by the truth of this wonderful relationship we have with Jesus.

I agree with you about earthly marriage, also. If couples each determine and succeed in always putting the other ahead of themselves, how could a marriage possibly fail? Yet, we are not likely, even with resolve, to perfectly achieve this. Forgiveness is an issue my poem doesn’t mention, but it is part of the secret of an enduring marriage relationship.

Thank you for stopping by and for your delightful comment. The thought of our close relationship with the LORD gives me goosebumps, too. Blessings to you, Jane…

Wow Carol…I was just thinking about my four kids and wondering if any of them will find a lifetime mate and a successful marriage. The world is such a mess now and my kids seem to be looking in all the wrong places for companionship. I pray for them daily that they will find the love and lifetime committment of a believing spouse who truly understands what a marriage should be, forever and not just for a time.

    • The prayers of a mother are powerful. Sometimes it seems like those slow-to-be-answered prayers are floating around in space, but grasping hold of our faith, we know that God hears our cries for our children. Our children are the work of His hands, and our prayers are knit into the fabric of their lives. Blessings to you, Jeanne, a praying mom…

This is so beautiful. The combination of poetry and scripture is inspiring. I wish there were more contemporary poetry that are powerful and popular like the Psalms. Keep writing and loving!
