Up and Away to Return One Day

They watched You ascend LORD –

Into the sky they gazed
Looking upward amazed
Two angels set them straight LORD –
Why stare – said they –
He’ll be back one day

Acts 1:9-11
– The Bible (NIV) – After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Luke 24:36-53 – The Bible (NIV) – While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.

He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

Mark 16:19-20 – The Bible (NIV) – After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

Psalm 47:5-8 – The Bible (NIV) – God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the LORD amid the sounding of trumpets. Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise. God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne.

Psalm 68:18-21 – The Bible (NIV) – When you ascended on high, you took many captives; you received gifts from people, even from the rebellious— that you, LORD God, might dwell there. Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death. Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins.

Beautiful poetry and thanks for encouraging me as I plod along. You are a faithful sister and will surely receive an equally beautiful crown from our Lord one day, when you see Him, and He speaks these words to you, “well done my good and faithful servant. Enter into your rest!”

    • Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comment. I’m often touched by your blog, and see you as my sister in Christ. I know your heart belongs to Jesus. I, too, know what it is like to have family members distant from the LORD. We may be the only prayer warriors fighting for them. May God hear our prayers. May he break down the strongholds of the Evil One in their lives and reveal Himself to them. Blessings to you…

What a glorious day that will be 🙂

  4. Happy Eater Carol Ann.
Isn’t it interesting that Heaven is associated with “up” and “the sky”. Is that really ‘where’ it is?

    • Since down would put Heaven under the earth, I prefer to think it’s up in the sky. Jesus ascended. That’s up. Someday we will know.

It’s nice to hear from you. Just recently I clicked on my blogroll link to your blog. I thought maybe my connection had been lost. I recognized your last post, so I knew I was still subscribed. Blessings to you, Zoe…

Be Blessed this day Carol. While we may never meet on the earth I look forward to meeting you in eternity. Jeanne

    • What a pleasant thought! Yes, we will meet someday! And we will meet lots of bloggers we know in Heaven. Won’t that be a splendid time!

Thank you for your visit and your sweet comment. I, too, look forward to that meeting. Blessings to you, Jeanne…

    Happy Easter!

    you deserve the best.

  9. jacsprat says:

How timely! At a Bible study I went to last week, the leader said that the ascension is a very important part of Easter that most people forget to celebrate. Jesus’ breaking free from the tomb showed his power, and his glory shone through as he ascended to heaven! Like we say at church, I’m so glad I serve a risen Lord!! 😀

  10. I hope your Easter was lovely, Carol Ann.

  11. pattisj says:

Another encouraging post! Awaiting that trumpet sound with you, but keeping busy in the meantime. Hope you had a blessed Easter.

    • Thank you, Patti. We did have a blessed Easter, and I trust that you did also. Keeping busy is what we should be doing while we wait patiently. No one knows the day or the hour, so inactivity would be foolish. Blessings to you…

  12. Bonnie says:

Beautiful as always, Carol Ann. I hope you and yours had a beautiful Easter. Blessings to you…

  13. Amazing photo to illustrate the words. Hope you had a blessed Easter…but then, it’s not over, is it!

    • You are right. It’s not over yet. He’s coming back. It’s not over then either. It doesn’t end, does it? We move from one age to another to eternity with Him. Blessings to you, Victoria…

  15. trisha says:

the whole human civilization is waiting for that return i firmly believe.

    • Yes, the Bible says that the whole earth groans waiting for the day of its renewal. All His Word will one day happen. I, too, look forward to good things to come. Blessings to you, Trisha…
