Where is the Promise of His Coming

This world has never seen days like this
I say as I contemplate the world situation
So much there is that points to Your coming
In the clouds to save us from the wrath to come

Yet looking back I see other times
When men have sought to rule the globe
This vain pursuit has oft’ emerged
Did believers expect the age to end

Perhaps they did but we’re all still here
Waiting and watching signs of the times
There’s nothing preventing your imminent return
Not then and not now but you waited longer

A day with You LORD is as a thousand years
And a thousand years is as only one day
You’re not slack concerning your promise
But You wait for the early and latter rain

Your Beloved waits for You to come
Lamps trimmed and vessels filled with oil
You won’t be long – You’re never late
Whether sooner or later You love us

1 Peter 3:8-9 – The Bible – But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

James 5:7-8 – The Bible – Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

Ha! How many times do we think we are waiting on God, when in fact, He is waiting on US! Thank you for sharing His Word with us, a refreshing, no-calorie snack to feed our souls. Keep up the good work, Carol! What is this manuscript of which you speak?? (I think that was mentioned yesterday).

    • I am working on a novel. I’ll give you my best shot at a one-sentence summary:

The reader follows a young family through three days of terror, after eight-year-old David is kidnapped, and five-year-old Rachel, rendered speechless by her experience, is presumed to have witnessed her brother’s abduction.

I have connected with it again for real! I’m enjoying making revisions and hope to have it ready some time in this age of grace. 🙂 Blessings to you, Patti

Wonderful poem. ‘Sooner or later’ is about all we can be sure of when it comes to knowing when He will come again. Our time on Earth is limited, but our time with Him is infinite.

I believe never before have human beings waited so eagerly for Him. I too know that He will come when it is the right time, hope its not too late for us.

    • If a believer should die before this special event that Christians refer to as the rapture, the believer’s soul would go directly to Jesus and be with Him where He is, so it’s never too late for a believer to spend eternity in Heaven.

John 14:2-3 says: In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

  8. Carol Ann, as always you’ve given us a lovely reminder that God will not forsake us. It does seem the signs of Christ’s imminent return are growing stronger, but we don’t experience time from the perspective of eternity like God does. Our job is to be prepared, but wait patiently.

    • Ah, yes, we wait, and He waits. I want all my loved ones to be ready. The countdown continues, but we don’t know the numbers. I am hoping for a great harvest of souls to find sweet, safe haven in Christ before the trumpet sounds. Thank you for your insightful comment. You are so right. Blessings to you, Carol…
