Follow Me through the Fire

I find myself at a startling place

On a path that makes me shiver
LORD I need guidance more than ever

Listening I hear you say
You may choose to go this way
I say – what did you say

You say – I said choose your way
What’s in your mind’s okay
Follow your heart today

No – I say – You choose for me
You guide me with your eye then
I wait – until I must decide

Peace within my heart abides
My direction I must choose
I pray you bless my shoes

I travel carefully down this road but
Trouble lies around the bend
Did I wrongly choose this trail

Walk through this valley child
I will guide you with my eye
Take heart – I’m with you here

This is not where I wish to be

I say – This is not what I desire
You say – travel on my child

I will never leave you alone –
I’ll carry you through the fire
Rest is near and I’m here –

Psalm 32:8
– The Bible – I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Psalm 23:4-5 – The Bible – Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Isaiah 43:2 – When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Steadfast faith in the Lord. That’s the way it should be. A lovely post Carol. When I read this another passage came to me Isaiah 43:2 “when you pass through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers also, they shall not overcome thee: when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned neither; shall the flame kindle upon thee.” thanks for sharing. Be blessed 🙂

This post reminds me of trying to decide what to do “next” if I stopped practicing law.

I kept saying, “Tell me what to do and I’ll do it.”
Spirit merely replied, “You’re not doing what you came here to do.”

At last I got it ~ our purpose is to discover our purpose and then pursue it with passion.

    Wonderful poem, Carol Ann

    • Thank you for stopping by and for your insightful comment. I remember your telling about the change of direction in your life. I find it true, too, that we don’t always get the crisp, clear answers we wish for, but there is a purpose in this, I believe. Someday I will understand it better. Blessings to you, Nancy…

    • Thank you very much. I appreciate your encouragement. Sometimes we end up where we aren’t sure we were meant to go, but we can always trust God to guide us when we call on him, be it through the valley of the shadow of death or through the fire. Blessings to you…

It’s so easy to doubt when things get uncomfortable, but faith is about trusting even though we may not understand. I just wish I had a clearer sign that I’m on the path He planned for me to travel.

    • Thank you for stopping by, Janna, and thank you for your comment. If we truly want to be on the path God has for us, and we ask Him to show us, I think we may trust that we are either there or on our way there. He promises to answer the prayers of His children according to His perfect will. 🙂 Blessings to you, Janna…

Beautiful Carol. It’s hard to image sometimes that the hard path is the correct one. I surely wouldn’t choose hard but that is how we are refined. Thanks for the reminder.

Not every path I send you on / Will suit your heart’s desire
These words echoed through my mind. Rationally speaking, no agony, no pleasure. We get no idea what we have is the pleasure, without a bitter experience. But when the fire (or agony) stands in front of me, we don’t think it is necessary to get pleasure. That’s why faith is important, I think. Just my opinion. 🙂

    • Thank you for stopping in, Jguno. I appreciate your insightful comment. Yes, you are right in what you said. No pain, no gain. I’ve heard that little motto about gaining strength from exercising. We exercise our faith, developing stronger faith from walking through the fire storms of life trusting in God. When we come out, we are stronger. I also agree about the contrast of pleasurable times and difficult times. Going through the hard times causes us to appreciate the full value of the good times. Blessings to you…
