LORD I shine like the stars at night
Until a horsefly lands
On my nose or
A horse steps hard
On my toes –
There goes…
LORD I celebrate each conquest
You bring into my life
But when I believe
I’ve conquered all
This is when
I fall
LORD I’m not the woman I will be
Nor the woman I was
But by your power
I’ll become
More like you
Each hour

Romans 8:28-39 (The Bible) – And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. (emphasis added)
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 John 3:2 (The Bible) – Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
I love this post…the poem and the scriptures. Beautiful!

I heard an elderly black woman say the following: “Lord, we ain’t what we should be, and we ain’t what we’re gonna be, but thank you, Lord, we ain’t what we was!”
Great post! Says a bit about pride – did you see the poem on it that I wrote? Yours is more to the point and better, but it seems our minds have been running on parallel tracks! God bless! ~Paula

Wonderful poem. It’s so true that we can’t let our guard down when we think we’ve succeeded. It’s not long before something else comes along to remind us we’ve got so much further to go 🙂

Carol, I love your gentle reminders of past, present and our future. I often feel as though I should look over my shoulder to see what is coming to knock me off my feet when things are going well. I still struggle with trying to take care of things myself instead of relying on God, only handing them off to Him when I have totally messed things up.
My husband often quotes something like “the things that you worry about won’t be the things that get you, it will be the things you don’t see coming.”

Jeanne, I believe I’ve been chided by my husband for worrying about things that probably will never happen, too. We learn slowly perhaps, but we learn. Sometimes looking carefully back over the years, recalling my ways, I am able to realize that I’m getting wiser as I live longer. I am impatient with myself, but God is long suffering. He knows what he got when He formed me in my mother’s womb. In fact, He knew earlier than that, so says the Bible. Our all-knowing God does not have unrealistic expectations of us, and, He knows how to move us along to our destiny. Blessings to you…
