Wherever you go, I will go…

Ten years earlier Naomi, with her husband and two sons, had journeyed to Moab because famine plagued their beloved Bethlehem. During their stay in Moab, Naomi’s husband died, her two sons married women of Moab; and next, of all downturns that could come, Naomi’s two sons died, also.

News of prosperity in Bethlehem reached Naomi. She and her daughters-in-law set out for Bethlehem. Along the way Naomi urged her two daughters-in-law to return to their families. Orpah at length gave in, said her goodbyes, and returned to her family.

But Ruth said, “Don’t coax me to leave you or to return from following after you, for wherever you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God my God. Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD hold me responsible if anything but death parts you and me.”

Ruth – Woman of Destiny

Citizen of Moab
A nation polytheistic
Believing in many gods
Ruth married into a family
Monotheistic
Believing in One God

Naomi – mother of
Ruth’s deceased husband
Shared her faith with Ruth
Told her all about
The great God of Israel

The One God
Who would not share
His glory with another

Claiming to be Creator

Sustainer
Provider
Giver of life
Maker
Healer and Redeemer
Ruth clutched this God
With all her might
Forsaking all others
Embracing forever
The God of Naomi

Ruth chose her path
Never to deviate
Never to forsake
Her mother-in-law
Nor her faithful God

Ruth held in her grasp
The heart of her God
Becoming the woman
Who famously said
Wherever you go
I will go

Woman of faith
Daughter-in-law
Of the ages and
Great grandmother
Of King David
Courageous Ruth
Left all that was familiar
Gaining forever
The favor of God
Her future secure
Her destiny assured

    • Thank you for the link. I was interested, and I clicked in and read the post. I see that the beautiful twin young women were named Naomi and Ruth. Maybe their mother had a special feeling for the Book of Ruth or admired the sweet relationship between mother-in-law Naomi and her daughter-in-law Ruth. I didn’t see a comment window, so I was unable to leave a comment. Thanks for stopping by, Nancy. Blessings to you…

I wonder why you can’t see the comment window. I just clicked on the link and there is a comment window. Odd.

I gave Naomi a link here as well, since I expect she will be interested in this post.

      • Thank you, Nancy. There is another blog where I have no window, a blog I frequent all the time. But today, no comment window. I wonder if I’m the only one that gets no window. Hm. Thanks for letting me know.

I somehow have found a new path with my faith, my little home town, the comfort zone of knowing the four walls, choir loft and the glowing lights and stainglass windows. Not as grand as those in Italy.! Simple, with a more calming a reflective feeling, somehow very emotional for me. This past month has had many turning points…the few minutes of reflection have helped…I’m sure I’ll find the right path and prayer decisions I make with be the right ones.Hugs xx Thanking for sharing.

  10. I wonder if we even think in the same terms that Naomi and Ruth did. Our lives are so cluttered with unnecessary things and relationships in society so shallow that I wonder if a devotion like Ruth’s even happens anymore…

Your poetry is beautiful, Carol Ann. I love the story of Ruth and Naomi. What a special relationship they shared. The Lord blessed me with a mother-in-law who taught me so much about love, life, and living for the Lord, just as Naomi taught Ruth. Sadly, my mother-of-the-heart was taken Home many years ago, and I still miss her greatly.

    • Thank you for visiting, Cindy. I consider it a special privilege to share this story with someone that hasn’t already heard it. I have told only a small part of it. The Book of Ruth contains one of the greatest love stories in the Bible. Ruth finds a wonderful husband for having followed Naomi, and Naomi is blessed with a grandchild born into royal lineage. Blessings to you…
