In my blackest night
If there be no light
If wrong seems right
Dreams blur my sight
Will you be there
I will guide you with my eye
If hope’s glow goes dim
If I forget where I’ve been
And can’t remember when
Even as death closes in
Will you be there
I will never leave you nor forsake you
Though my body be crushed
And my breathing hushed
Still I’ll lift my praise
All my bones shall say
LORD who is like You

Psalm 32:8 – I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
Joshuah 1:5 – No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Psalm 35: 10 – All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?
Psalm 116:15 – Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
Here’s what bothers me in life (now there’s a bold way to start a comment!)- we get out of those moments when wrong seems right, dreams blur our sight and we can’t remember where we’ve been, and we think we’ve learned something, grown, so that next time we’ll be stronger and overcome more easily, not get so muddle-headed. Yet, then it happens again, and we discover that we hadn’t learned or grown like we thought we had. So slow to learn… Maybe it’s just me.
Thanks for the encouraging notes you weave into the poem.

I can only speak for myself. I’ve been a very slow learner and every now and then God shows me that I haven’t really changed. The flesh, that is, still lives inside, waiting for its moment to rule. I can’t believe that I’m not a shining star of strength and virtue. I might twinkle now and then, I hope. Thank you for your comment. You are always a careful observer of life. Blessings to you, Zoe…

Sometimes I give the impression that I’m really a rogue. I love God and my heart’s desire is to please Him, but I’m far from perfect.
Yes, God is good, and if we fail a test, we may expect another one coming until we master our weaknesses, as your wise comment points out. I think its a matter of His mastering us and allowing Him to lead.
Thank you for stopping by and for your comment. Blessings to you, Nancy.

It is amazing how God’s eyes are everywhere watching the evil and the good (Prov. 15:3), but they also guide us, even while knowing the wrong we do! Thank you for this wonderful reminder that we’re never alone!

nice poem! the wonderful thing about God is that there’s always something to learned. we also get the opportunity for “do overs.” meaning, if we mess something up, the same situation (perhaps in a different setting or with different people) will come round again. AND if we master something, then we quickly learn there’s another area to work on. GROWTH. 😀

Beautiful poem Carol. My problem is that I tend to carry worries myself and lead when I should follow. This year, I’m working on letting go – more prayer and more trust in God to lead me, because HE won’t steer me wrong.

This is true, Janna. He will lead. His Word is a light to our path, yet there are times when we need extra guidance. When there appears to be a fork in the road and we must choose our path, then we pray, wait, watch, until we know the way.

Through the darkest hours He will never forget us…
…but I believe that we are expected to gain strength and wisdom in this life and have the courage to apply the things that He teaches us, so that, to some extent, we are equipped to help ourselves through troubles also. If that fails, He is there to pick us up. And always will be.
Blessings to you Carol xx

You are correct, Chloe. All our troubles have a silver lining of lessons to be learned. This is how He trains us to follow closely His leadership. When we fall, it hurts; when we learn, we don’t fall so easily next time. Yes, we get stronger and wiser through trials. Thank you for your insightful comment. Blessings to you, Chloe…
