Christmas Gathering

Lots of hard work and
Anxious moments
Bring forth this holiday
Cheer once a year

Traditions hold
A bird or ham or whatever
Our family deems dear
And mom’s cookies
(Call her for the recipe
Yes we lost it again
This year)

The guests come from
Far and near
Our family
Their mates
And offspring
A friend or two
A motley crew
How could
A few
Have multiplied
Into this
Mass of mingled

The thin sheep
The used-to-be thin ones too
The round sheep and tall
The short
The sweet
The rude
The black sheep
One or two
The ewes the rams
And of course the lambs

Before we mark down
The value of
Our black sheep
Or the mate of
Our perfect lamb
Or the one we wish
Wouldn’t have come at all
(For good reason of course)
The babe in the
Humble born
King of Kings
Loves every single one

We honor Him when we
Bite our tongue
Rather than speak
Our mind
When we treat the
Less cherished guest
With kindness
When we elevate
The ones less favored
When we make them
Feel wanted and loved

When we bathe our

Christmas gathering
In prayer for peace
And good will all day
Knowing the Enemy
(The party crasher)
Would like to
Have his way

This is one way
We honor Christ
On Christmas Day

John 13:34-35 – A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

About Carol Ann Hoel

  4. Beautiful posting, Carol. Thank you for the gentle reminder that God loves ALL the sheep and goes to great lengths to include the lost, the hopeless, and the annoying. Happy Christmas!

    • You are so sweet. Thank you for being a champion of the lost, the hopeless, and the annoying. These are the ones we need to show extra love, and sometimes they may be annoying. Blessings to you for the New Year and always.

Beautiful words Carol which are so true. God loves every one of his children – even those that appear to be lost in some way. It’s essential in our life, for our own personal growth, to treat people how we would like to be treated, to treat everybody as equal in the eyes of God. Thanks for this wonderful reminder.

Blessings to you my dearest friend xx
