Was it a quiet night
In Bethlehem
Were the stars visible
Or out of sight
Was Mary afraid
Of giving birth
Did Joseph hold
Her hand that night
Was there a lamp for light
In the stable
How long did Mary labor
Did her baby cry
What are swaddling clothes
Were they warm and dry
Was the manger right
For a newborn child
My questions floated
In the sky
I thought I heard
An angel sigh
I am warm tonight
And dry
My husband holds
Me close to him though
I’m not in Bethlehem
If God provides all this for me
Would He do less for them

I really like this poem, Carol Ann. You draw us in to what it may have been like that night. The last two lines are perfect- the big picture is true in every case: God is always doing His thing.

One of the things about that night is that the fact that there was great doubt about the birth of Jesus. There had been so many false prophets before which lead to this doubt.

Thank you for stopping by, Duke. Your comments are always welcome. You continually think of the needs of others, a blessed attitude, indeed. God knows how to dispel our doubts. Doubts distress us and cause us to seek the face of our God. When that happens, Satan’s plans are undone. Your kindness is a blessing to me and others. Have a blessed Christmas season…

Carol Ann–
this year, more than at any other time in my life, I find myself pondering the actual humanity of Jesus, being born, an infant and God…
I wonder about 1 15 year old Mary…how scared she must have been…

It’s awesome to think about. They were people like us, Mary and Joseph. And Jesus was like us, too; even though He was and is and always will be divine. Being like us is a huge challenge for them as it is for us. I, too, have thought more this year than ever before about the human aspect of their journey.
Thank you for stopping by, Jane. I know how busy you are with your precious family from here to Christmas and into the New Year. Blessings always…
