The Invincible Woman

The woman about whom I wrote this verse had cerebral palsy and sickle cell anemia. She used a motorized chair most of the time because walking was nearly impossible. She cared for her two-year-old child herself. She could chase her little boy riding her chair like a deer running after its fawn. She had a sweet personality. She persevered through adversity with grace. I wrote this for her and gave her a copy. I have lost touch with her since then, but I hope she is still coping and caring for her boy. She was an inspiration in our neighborhood.

She’s soft and warm
Kind-hearted too
She knows God loves her
She relies on His grace
She’s black
She’s beautiful
She’s stronger than most
She bears greater burdens
Than most others bear
She’s unique but she sees herself
No different than all
She loves her life
And knows it’s her gift
She loves the Life Giver
And serves Him with gladness
Inner beauty’s her garment
Which is His and it glows
In her face, in her moves
Wherever she goes
Jesus lives in her heart
and touches His World
In her weakness He’s strong
Because of Him, she is
And always will be
The invincible woman
Do you know her
I do

    • Yes, she inspired me very much. I became more thankful for the simple things of life. She never complained and there was always a smile on her face and a greeting for everyone that brightened the day. I was not in her inner circle, yet she influenced me and many others with her sweet attitude. Thank you for stopping by Trisha. Blessings to you a thousandfold…

Such a beautiful tribute to a wonderfully strong sounding woman. You might no longer be in touch with this lady, but it certainly sounds like you both touched one another’s life – and what a gift and blessing that is!! Blessings to you Carol xx

    • Thank you for stopping by to visit my blog. I appreciate your comment. Yes, we did touch one another’s lives. I will never forget watching her sail along the sidewalks in her chair with her boy in her arms or skillfully maneuvering it through the trees in the courtyard until she caught up with him. A two-year-old is a challenge to a well person. She was an inspiration to many. Thank you, again, and blessings to you, Chloe…

Really nice poem Carol. I would like to feature this poem on my blog. It’s a once a month feature called Poetic License. September was the first month and I am looking to fill my January post. November and December are already filled.

My blog has a very unconventional name so you might decide against having me feature it on my site and I understand. Either way could you let me know. I feature seven poets every month plus one from myself. Feel free to check out September or October’s post first before you decide. Of course you will get credit and a link back to your site. Thanks.

    • Thank you for your visit, Tom. You are right. The name of your blog is very unconventional, and it does weigh in heavily as a reason for not wanting my poem to be featured there. The fact that it is unconventional isn’t really the issue. Thank you for presenting the opportunity and for visiting my blog. Blessings to you…
