The Invincible Woman

The woman about whom I wrote this verse had cerebral palsy and sickle cell anemia. She used a motorized chair most of the time because walking was nearly impossible. She cared for her two-year-old child herself. She could chase her little boy riding her chair like a deer running after its fawn. She had a sweet personality. She persevered through adversity with grace. I wrote this for her and gave her a copy. I have lost touch with her since then, but I hope she is still coping and caring for her boy. She was an inspiration in our neighborhood.

She’s soft and warm
Kind-hearted too
She knows God loves her
She relies on His grace
She’s black
She’s beautiful
She’s stronger than most
She bears greater burdens
Than most others bear
She’s unique but she sees herself
No different than all
She loves her life
And knows it’s her gift
She loves the Life Giver
And serves Him with gladness
Inner beauty’s her garment
Which is His and it glows
In her face, in her moves
Wherever she goes
Jesus lives in her heart
and touches His World
In her weakness He’s strong
Because of Him, she is
And always will be
The invincible woman
