Celebrating Tuesday

Today my dear husband, Johannes Hoel, a Norwegian by birth, a naturalized citizen of the United States of America, asked me out for lunch. This is not an everyday occurrence and I was pleased. We dined at a little Thai restaurant in Dallas, Texas, a quiet, modest, family-owned place about half filled with patrons, which, in my mind, made it a perfect getaway. The ambiance was cozy; the service, welcoming and congenial. The food was delicious.

Johannes ordered a Thai curry with chicken and egg drop soup. I ordered Thai ginger with tofu and a salad. Won Ton is always my favorite Asian soup but it wasn’t offered as a side, so I chose a salad, which was dressed in peanut sauce with an indescribable texture, a special treat I enjoyed immensely. Of course, we tasted one another’s fare.

Ginger sticks were piled high on my plate along with chunks of red and green peppers and mushrooms, slices of onion and other crunchy vegetables, with seared cubes of tofu, all in a sauce that was delightful, with a round scoop of fluffy white rice contrasting with all the bright colors. I shared the ginger sticks with Johannes, a lover of raw or cooked ginger. Yes,  
he even likes hot ginger tea. The Thai curry, a greenish spicy sauce made with coconut milk, surrounded a feast of fancy-cut carrots, cabbage and onion slices, and more, with chicken, topped off with a ball of white rice. This tasty dish satisfied the hearty appetite of my husband. We both took great pleasure in our celebration of Tuesday.
