Blunder of the Ages meant for evil but God meant for good

Watching the remnants of Tropical Storm Hermine, I am reminded how blessed we have been to escape the brunt of so many bad storms. In fact, most of us see these storms only on TV. Yet, we identify with and feel great sympathy for people that have endured hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, tsunamis and the like. I cannot explain why such awful things happen, but they do happen. Anyone that reads my blog knows that one of my favorite phrases is God is good. I don’t believe that God is the author of such catastrophes, but He must allow them or they couldn’t happen. Life and death are in His hands alone. No one tops His authority or topples His plans. He is at work bringing good to His people in spite of the storms and through them still accomplishes His purposes.

We know that Satan devised (or thought he devised) the crucifixion of Christ in an attempt to destroy the Son of God and any hope for mankind. The Father in Heaven allowed it, although Satan orchestrated it. Satan served the purpose of God while he meant to thwart it.

God provided salvation to mankind having allowed His Son to pay our sin debt at Calvary, which is exactly opposite from the desired outcome planned by the Evil One. Think of how monumental this mistake of the Evil One, Satan’s blunder of the ages, really was. Satan, through his influence, brought suffering and death to the only One that could defeat him forever. This seemed like a plan that should have worked. God is wiser that Satan.

By paying the debt of sin for the entire population of the world for all time, Jesus satisfied the justice of God. What is this justice? Law demands death for sin, and therefore, God could not justly forgive us for our sins unless this obstacle could be removed. Having satisfied justice by dying to pay the penalty for sin, Jesus Christ effectively removed the obstacle. Justice satisfied by Jesus, God offers forgiveness to all that believe in the name of his Son. Salvation is free to us. Believe and receive.
